What is #SharksChat?
#SharksChat is a Q and A to inform the public on facts about sharks. OCEARCH’s mission is to include the public with open data of sharks migrating all across the world. The most important part of #SharksChat is changing the conversation from one of fear to one of intrigue and fascination. The OCEARCH Twitter account receives a lot of questions on a daily basis, so implementing a regular TweetChat was inevitable.
Lydia is a female mature 14ft 2000 lbs white shark who was tagged in Jacksonville, Florida. She has traveled over 33,000 miles since her tagging on March 3, 2013. In March of the same year, Lydia crossed over the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. She made history and became the first documented trans-Atlantic white shark.
The next #SharksChat will take place Tuesday March 3rd. The chat starts at 11am Australia (Cairns) / 6pm MT / 8 EST. Guests include: Dr Nick Whitney and Heather Marshall of Mote Marine Laboratory, Simon Thorrold of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Expedition Leader Chris Fischer, and Lydia The Shark.
