In the Nintendo 64 classic Super Mario 64, players can unlock Luigi as a playable character by completing a series of specific tasks.
To unlock Luigi, the player must first collect 100 Power Stars. Once this is done, the player must then go to the castle courtyard and speak to Toad. Toad will then give the player a key that unlocks the door to the basement of the castle. In the basement, the player must defeat Bowser in a race to obtain the final Power Star. Once the final Power Star is obtained, the player can then go to the moat surrounding the castle and speak to the blue Toad near the cannon. The blue Toad will then give the player a key that unlocks the door to a secret room in the castle. In the secret room, the player must defeat a metal version of Bowser to finally unlock Luigi as a playable character.
